Martin Farina was born in Buenos Aires in 1982. He has a degree in communications from the Universidad Nacional de La Matanza, where he also studied music and philosophy. Farina is a member of La Otra Radio, a radio program on cinema culture in Argentina. He regularly produces industrial reels, music videos and commercials. Fulboy marks Farina’s feature debut, and was selected by BFI Flare: London LGTB Film Festival.
For reasons I can’t explain, Argentineans believe we know everything about football. I also have trouble explaining my own migrations – from football fields to filmmaking. It is some mixture of passion, enjoyment, and my own subconscious. When I get to know a person, I imagine myself sharing their feelings and attitudes on life. This approach allowed me to get as close as I did with the football players in Fulboy.

Football players know how to seduce, how to manipulate others with their sensuality, so that it is impossible not to fall in love with them. But the general public doesn’t want to admit to this; the mass media will not show it directly. Instead, we are submerged by a macho image of modern-day gladiators fighting for the dreams that people fantasize. Still, these men love to be watched. I created Fulboy to open the space between reality and poetry, allowing us to share these beautiful moments with the football players.
